Flexible Journeys Across South Africa

Private Guided Travel

Private guided journeys that can link Johannesburg with Kruger, Pilanesberg, Pretoria, Hartbeespoort, battlefield routes and wider South Africa.

A tall quiver tree with smooth, forked pale trunks stands in a rocky, arid garden filled with succulents and aloe plants. Perfect for tours led by a safari specialist, the sunlit, rugged hills make an ideal backdrop under a clear sky.
A dense informal settlement with many makeshift shacks made of metal sheets is seen beside a polluted river. As a professional tours specialist, I observe colourful laundry hanging outside homes, with sparse trees and power lines under a clear blue sky.

What this means

A brightly lit limestone cave interior features tall stalagmites and stalactites. A professional, private roped path guides visitors, whilst artificial lights highlight the natural formations—ideal for tours led by safari specialists.

Guided journeys, not just transfers

Ekala can structure private journeys across parts of South Africa where the route makes practical sense. These may include airport collection, guest house stays, en-route touring, safari transfers, battlefield routes, mining sites, cultural stops and regional travel.

The emphasis is on private guided travel and interpretation, not simply moving passengers from one point to another.

Start and end points

A large courtroom with wooden desks and chairs faces a semicircular judge’s bench. A lectern stands in the centre. A South African flag hangs above the bench, while glass panels curve along the ceiling—a professional setting for private tours.

Why start and end points are essential

A route can only be quoted once the exact start and end points are known. Johannesburg, Pretoria, O. R. Tambo, hotels, lodges, stations and private addresses all affect timing and cost.

For longer routes, at least one end normally needs to be Johannesburg, or the request must be quoted as a broader private journey with positioning time included.

Possible linked routes

A dynamic montage shows cricketers batting and wicketkeeping, rugby players tackling, and footballers dribbling. The stadium, packed with supporters, sits beneath a city skyline in the golden sunset—perfect for a private tour with a professional safari specialist.

Examples of routes that may be linked

  • Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria touring.
  • Cradle of Humankind, Lesedi and Hartbeespoort.
  • Pilanesberg and Sun City routes.
  • Kruger, Panorama, Mpumalanga and private safari logistics.
  • Battlefield or heritage routes where time allows.
  • Cullinan, mining and historical route combinations.

What can be included

A stone monument with a plaque stands on a grassy hilltop surrounded by rocks. Ideal for professional private tours, the misty landscape and leafy green shrub add to the allure of this tranquil setting.

Journey structure

A flexible journey may include private vehicle use, guiding, airport or station meet-and-greet, accommodation planning, meals, en-route stops, route interpretation and practical timing advice.

Items are included only where specifically stated in the quote. Entrance fees, meals, accommodation, third-party activities and specialist services must be clearly listed to be included.

What Ekala avoids

Sepia-toned photo of a two-storey brick Premier Hotel. A woman stands on the upper balcony. Below, a large group—including men in hats, women, children, and a professional tours specialist—pose by early motorcars lined up at the entrance.

No shared shuttle model

Ekala does not supply shared shuttle transfers that collect unrelated passengers en route. The service is private and structured around the specific guests, route, timing and purpose of travel.

Some transfer-only requests may not be suitable as standalone work, but useful logistics can often be built into a guided itinerary.

Before quoting

A group of professional miners in white reflective uniforms and hard hats walk through a dimly lit underground tunnel. They carry torches and wear headtorches; the ground is wet and muddy, with pipes and chains visible above them.

What we need

Please provide dates, passenger numbers, luggage, collection point, drop-off point, flight details if relevant, route interests, overnight needs, pace, special requirements and any fixed appointments or flights.

Ekala will then advise what is realistic, what route makes sense and whether the request is best treated as a transfer, an en-route tour or a wider private journey.

Before we quote or confirm

Two men stand side by side in front of a wooden fence, wearing traditional Zulu attire. As professional tour specialists, they pose proudly for the camera, surrounded by greenery and dressed in animal skin tops, leather skirts, beaded accessories, and fur leg decorations.

Information needed before quoting

Please email dates, number of guests, collection point, drop-off point, flight details where relevant, tour interests, dietary needs, allergies, medical or mobility concerns and any special requirements.
