Private, Specialist Journeys Through South Africa

Ekala Eco Tours

Ekala Eco Tours designs private, context-led journeys across South Africa — connecting history, culture, wildlife, landscapes and lived experience with specialist guiding and careful route planning.

A collage of South African landmarks and symbols: Johannesburg skyline at sunset, Nelson Mandela's statue, safari scenes, a cheetah, colourful beach huts, an ox-wagon, a round mud hut, the South African flag, and a Cradle of Humankind sign.
A textile artwork features six portraits of African women in traditional attire, each framed above woven beadwork and geometric patterns. Perfect for a safari specialist or tours professional, it celebrates African culture with vibrant headwraps, jewellery, and clothing.

A different way to travel

Two bare feet—one lighter-skinned, one darker-skinned—stand side by side on sand. “South Africa” is written in the sand above the feet, symbolising diversity and unity across different races in the country.
The image shows the South African flag made from woven fabric. The flag features horizontal bands of red and blue, a green Y-shape with white edges, and a black triangle with a yellow outline on the left side. The fabric texture is clearly visible.
A stone monument with a plaque stands on a grassy hilltop surrounded by rocks. Ideal for professional private tours, the misty landscape and leafy green shrub add to the allure of this tranquil setting.

South Africa is a country best understood through context — its landscapes, its history, its people, and the forces that have shaped it.

At Ekala Eco Tours, private travel is not simply a matter of transport or exclusivity. It is a way of giving each journey enough structure, flexibility and interpretation to make the experience meaningful. We design journeys around your interests, your timeframe and a considered pace that allows for proper understanding.

Our work is not based on fixed packages. It is based on connecting places, themes and experiences into a coherent South African journey.

Choose the right starting point

The site is built around specialist travel pathways. Each page gives detail, but the starting point is choosing the type of South African journey you want to create.

The Ekala difference

Ekala is personally managed and operated by Janet, Malcolm and Linda.

Janet and Malcolm are highly experienced, registered specialist guides, with deep experience in private guiding across South Africa’s history, culture and natural environments. Linda oversees the Ekala Guest House and guest experience, adding the personal hospitality, care and continuity that make Ekala more than a standard tour supplier.

This combination of guiding, planning, hosting and South African context shapes how Ekala designs each journey.

About EkalaWhy Travel Privately

Designed around you

Every journey begins with practical details: dates, available time, interests, group size, collection point, drop-off point, flight times where relevant, mobility considerations and any special requirements.

From these details, Ekala advises what can realistically be structured. This avoids rushed itineraries, unclear pricing and routes that look possible on paper but do not work well on the ground.

The result is private travel with purpose: flexible enough to suit the traveller, but structured enough to work properly.

Responsible travel

A leopard with golden fur and dark rosettes walks stealthily through dry, sparse forest undergrowth, partly obscured by blurred branches and foliage in the foreground. Its eyes are focused and mouth slightly open, suggesting alertness.

Ekala’s approach is deliberately careful: ethical wildlife choices, cultural respect, realistic route planning, and honest communication about what can and cannot be responsibly supplied.

This matters whether a guest is booking a safari, a cultural experience, a sanctuary visit, a battlefield route, an origins tour or a South Africa-wide private journey.
